NPO NovoTestSystems offers to use PLC-technology to solve the problem of organizing communication with cathodic protection stations.
Technical solutions offered by the company allow to create both an independent automated monitoring system based on NTS equipment and “Korsar” software of NPO “NovoTestSystems” and to integrate technological information into ACS of other developers at different levels of system operation.
The key element of PLC-technology is PLC-modem. PLC-modem is a compact electronic device providing reception and transmission of information via power lines. PLC-modems produced by NPO “NovoTestSystems” allow to organize communication channels on the basis of overhead and cable power lines 6/10kV, supplying power to cathodic protection stations. The range of stable communication can be from 1 to 15 km. The speed of information transmission reaches 19200 baud.
To connect PLC-modem to the power line it is necessary to have a power step-down transformer with voltage 0.4kV, as well as a protective grounding device, to which the transformer body and/or the neutral wire of the 0.4kV line are connected. The transmission and reception of the useful information signal takes place via the power transformer.
Advantages of PLC-technology
PLC-modems produced by NPO “NovoTestSystems” provide high electrical safety during operation, because unlike other similar devices do not have galvanic connection with 6/10kV lines.
PLC-modems are designed for industrial temperature range and can be used in conditions of cathodic protection station without additional heating/cooling.
In order to overcome distances greater than the maximum communication range, PLC-modems include the possibility of signal retransmission. This allows to organize data collection from cathodic protection stations located along the pipeline for several tens of kilometers.
Integration into other systems
To integrate communication channels via overhead and cable power lines into automated systems of other manufacturers, NovoTestSystems offers the technology of “transparent” channel organization.
